Hernando Cortez was born near the Spanish city of Salamanca. His father was an ships transfericer in the Spanish cavalry. Cortez grew up better off than near of his neighbors only when he was not rich. In 1504, at the years of 19, Cortez sailed to the Americas. Eventually, he settled on the island of Cuba, where he hoped to win fame and recognise fortune.
